The Sims 3: Replacing world terrain paint in Sunset Valley

This tutorial only applies to Sunset Valley! Other worlds are less fussy in terms of editing terrain because their textures are (most often) separate from the ones used in Build Mode, but Sunset Valley is different — it uses the same terrain paint that's used in Build Mode and includes premade images for the world and lots, to be used in Map View. Which means that changing the terrain paint texture is not enough to change the look of Sunset Valley in Map View.

Programs you will need: S3PE, Photoshop (or any other graphic software that supports batch image editing)

Unedited Sunset Valley, as seen from Map View.

Step 1: extracting the necessary files

2) copy/paste it to the PNGinstance field in the CommonBlock section of the CRMT resource:

2) copy/paste it to the PNGinstance field in the CommonBlock section of the CRMT resource:

TS3-roofthum-tut02.png

3) change (*) the ICON resource to these settings:

Type: ICON 0x2E75C765 (64x64 thumbnail)
Group: 0
Instance: [same instance as the CMRT resource]

(*) If you aren’t lazy like me, you can duplicate the ICON, change the type of the duplicate to 0x2E75C766, and modify only the original - which is still 0x2E75C765. Note that the original ICON might be 256x256, so you will have to export the PNG and resize it to 128x128 (otherwise the image will look cut off in the catalogue).

If you want to be extra thorough, you can also create a 32x32 ICON with a type of 0x2E75C764.
